My very first batch, my very first beer and not least my very first Portur!
The beer style Porter was said to be easier to brew than other styles so when I had the choice to choose a starting kit between Porter, American Pale Ale and a Pale Ale, it was easy to choose. Now, with the result at hand, I’m glad that I choose the Porter kit. Mine and other peoples judgement is OK to good, which is really good considering it was my very first brew.
My first beer was chilled by moving the whole kettle to the bathtub filled with cool water which indeed took time. I realized there has to be a better and more effective way to chill the wort. Another thing I realized was that while using the BIAB technique, very sticky and messy. I used the wire rack from the oven which worked but as there’s nothing on the sides it was hard to put pressure on the bag and wort was sipping through where it shouldn’t. A strainer would’ve made stuff much easier but I didn’t have a big enough at the time.
Like I said, the beer itself was OK, it was definitely a good recipe and I can see myself brew this beer again in the future but for now I’d first rather explore a more heavy porter with taste of chocolate.
