New website with the same content but with a much better layout and presentation. I hope the new website will be a lot more pleasant for mobile readers, but of course also for the ones visiting from a computer.
The old website will still be online for the foreseeable future but it won’t receive new updates or content, it’s just there for the most curious visitors, or the ones that feel nostalgic and want to visit something that looks like it’s from the 90s but in fact is designed and built in 2017.. Anyway, I feel too damn proud of my first real website, one that I designed and built in html and php myself, something I never thought I would do or even be somewhat satisfied with the result.
So OK, now that we’ve the backstory to my old website, am I only moving to wordpress because of easier presentation and mobile friendliness? Short answer yes, long answer no. You see, the old website is very static and it has nothing in the background that helps me build new posts, I’ve to copy paste the “template” and insert whatever content I needed – by hand. This steals motivation to put new content on the page and of course I want to feel an urge to post the newest batch first time possible and this hasn’t been the case.
Moving forward my intention is to keep the website more up to date, it’s also future proof in that sense that the menu, categories and so forth can handle hundreds of batches and keeping the same easy way to navigate. I’ve also made sure that front page will show you the latest posts published so you don’t have to go in to each and every category to find out which one is newest and latest batch.
I’ll also show the latest news on the front page as it’s own feed, I can for the devoted people show what is going on in the brewery, maybe what I’ll do next and so forth.
I’ve also created a new top category named “Core”, this is where I’ll put my named beers that is entirely brewed on my own recipes. This is something I’ve been talking about for years now in previous batch posts but yet not a single named beer has been produced. Even if WordPress does a lot for you, this website has taken me a long time to get good and transferring everything from the old website to this one was also time consuming, and I told myself I didn’t want to go live until it was ready.
With WordPress I expect to be able to do much more with the website so stay tuned for future improvements and content additions!
