Batch 61

Batch61_Label_Post

InĀ Batch 60 I said I wanted to try this recipe again and I didn’t wait any further than the very next batch. This time it turned out tasty!

As mentioned in my previous post, I wasn’t happy with the amount of alcohol and this time it was on spot creating much more pleasant taste of malt and hops. I continued with the Motueka hops and I’ve got to say, it’s not bad but it’s not great either so I’ll change this for my next batch (ah, the nice foreshadowing).

I also dropped the caramel malt (shouldn’t have been in the recipe to begin with) as it didn’t bring any value. Fine, the slight darker/redish color can be pleasant but I actually prefer my pilsners to be golden. It didn’t add enough to taste or mouthfeel so the decision was easy in the end. Speaking of malts, I know some have said they’ve made a Czech pilsner on 100% Bohemian pilsner malt which gives it a bit more complex taste and also a slight darker color which might be what I’m looking for. Perhaps something to try out in the future maybe.

I’m happy with the beer, it tastes good and looks great.
