Hello there!

I’m Marcus, a homebrewer from Sweden who started brewing my own beer in 2016. I started with the least amount of equipment I could find but realized pretty quickly that brewing beer was a lot of fun so now a few years later, I’m instead running out of storage space.

It’s kind of a surprise that I started brewing beer as I start to enjoy different styles of beer (other styles than pilsner) in 2014 but not long after realizing what I’ve been missing out on, I wanted to test styles that wasn’t that common or easy to get my hands on. Of course, having colleagues who was homebrewers and was telling me how fun it was made the decision even easier.

Now, a few years later brewing beer has become one of my biggest hobbies and I try to collect all my experiments, successes and failures, notes and thoughts in this blog.

The name Gestir Brew was made up with inspiration from an Icelandic movie because when I started to grow a beard my former colleague started calling me Gestir (like they do in the old movie ‘When the Raven Flies’) so I wanted to do something with this name. In 2023, I realized that we had it all wrong, he was not called Gestir but Gestur (doh), so of course I had to change the name of the brewery. This will explain your confusion when checking older batches and the name is different, and now you know why.

Before launching this WordPress website I built my own website (using HTML and PHP for the very first time) and I’ve saved it for historical reasons and of course because I did it on my very own. If you visit the old website you’ll see why I switched to WordPress *the 90’s flashes by*.
